Happy Birthday America

Happy Birthday America! https://eservices.scottsdaleaz.gov/bldgresources/Cases/Details/48813 This is one of the most difficult July 4th's in my lifetime. COVID-19, unemployment, the tragic murder of George Floyd, rioting, and looting have exposed economic and racial tensions that are undermining our democracy and the need to better prepare for national emergencies. Reinvesting in scientific research, public education, and US-based manufacturing will create jobs, restore dignity and inspire unity, and save lives. That's the way to restore the American dream. https://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/shares/scottsdale-cares? Councilwoman Whitehead's $1,000 Monthly Challenge There are so many ways residents have stepped up during this pandemic. Since mid-May, I've committed $1,000/month in support of Scottsdale Cares (https://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/shares/scottsdale-cares?) . 100% of the donations support people in Scottsdale. As the crisis deepens, so have the needs of many residents. If you can spare a buck or two, help me help neighbors. Donate on your City utility bill or sign up for monthly tax deductible donations online. https://www.facebook.com/SolangeforScottsdale/posts/412287062721793 The Scottsdale Way Scottsdalians don't shy away from taking on their Councilmembers but will rally together once decisions are made. That means knowing the gaps, changing parameters for this emergency, and stretching every CARES Act $ for those in need. Staff took guidance and dollars will now begin flowing into our community. When we keep people in their homes and give small businesses a lifeline - we all win (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wC3DjysHJpk&feature=youtu.be) . Morally and financially. Covid-19 and frequent Governor Executive Orders impact City Services and Facilities. Get up-to-date information here (https://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/news/coronavirus-update) . While BLM protestors and police have clashed in other cities, Scottsdale Police coordinated with protest organizers and even provided attendees with face masks. Scottsdale's police department is open to and part of an effort to ensure the tragedies seen elsewhere can not happen here. The City can and must do better and together we will.
